Welcome to The United States Weather Alert Team Website

Before you make a decision to join our team; Please read all the following information.

First and Foremost:

As per our "Mission Statement"

Team Safety is Non-Negotiable. We will never sacrifice team safety for a video of a severe weather event. We pledge to provide the highest quality of weather condition reporting to the National Weather Service. We also pledge to meet and/or exceed the Skywarn Spotter standards for the accuracy and quality of information submitted in our reports

Disclaimer: Storm chasing is a hazardous and potentially deadly activity. Chasing a severe weather event with the intent of capturing video and/or still photos of tornadoes can involve many hazards including down powerlines, large hail, damaging wind, fallen trees, dangerous driving conditions and flying debris. It is highly recommended that you first ride along with an experienced storm chaser before attempting this on your own. And, just because you have seen the movie "Twister" fifty times doesn't make you a storm chaser. It's a movie and NOT a training film.

During an active storm chase; Our mobile storm chasers use the "ACES Concept" to help keep them safe: The ACES Concept is broken down into four very important statements.
Awareness: Always know what is going on around you.
Communication: Always let people know where you are at all times.
Escape Routes: Always leave yourself a way out of trouble.
Safe Zones: Always know where a safe area is.
Addional team "Safety Protocols" can be viewed on the "Safety Page".
Once you have read through all of the "Team Safety and Disclaimer" information; If you wish to join the United States Weather Alert Team... Please continue to read below.
The United States Weather Alert Team is an all volunteer organization.
During an active severe weather event; Our team offers the following to individuals that are actively chasing storms.
Dispatch / Net Control Stations: Our dispatchers and Net Control stations use "Zello" to communicate with each other and chasers in the field.
Weather Updates: These updates are also communicated via "Zello".
Radar Support: Our radar techs use several different radar programs during a severe weather event. Those products are... Gibson Ridge GR2Analyst, GREarth and GRLevel3. We also have the ability to use RadarScope and Pykl3 radar applications.
Storm Chaser Tracking: We have the ability to track storm chaser positions in relationship to a severe storm via Spotter Network and GPS.
